Hi there – and welcome to the new edition of the Berge Bulletin, your one-stop shop for what’s going on in the campaign.
My first time at the Good Old Fashioned Corn Roast in West Salem, hosted by Sen. Brad Pfaff! We filled the pole barn with Berge volunteers! I unfortunately did not get a picture of my corn...I ate it too fast.
When DVO and Vance hold a private rally, we the people show up. The motorcade ended up going the wrong way down a one way to avoid us. Don’t worry the 250 of us ran across the street and over a small hill to meet them. They can’t avoid the people!!
I volunteered with the Vernon County Dems serving delicious pizza to the Viroqua community to raise money for Kickapoo Area Schools weekend food program. We all need to put energy into what we control and serving our local community is one of those things
We stopped by the Rosholt Parade and had a visit to the Portage County Fair. Several people told me that this area is heavily Republican but we still showed up! Because it’s important to show up in all areas of the district.
The Ho-Chunk Nation PowWow was a great way to bookend the summer. I was honored to be invited to join the Grand Entry with other candidates for various offices. Such beauty and strength throughout the ceremony and the greater PowWow. Thank you, Ho-Chunk Nation for your hospitality.
The Berge volunteers started Labor Day in La Crosse and joined in the very fun Labor Day Parade which is in its 134th (!) year.
After getting to Eau Claire as fast as we could from La Crosse, without speeding, we headed straight to Laborfest in downtown Eau Claire. Things were wrapping up but I hear it was an excellent event with 300 people and invigorating speeches.
The Berge team headed out to Berlin to the 4 County picnic to chat with folks in Democratic Party of Adams County - WI along with Marquette, Waushara, and Green Lake Counties. It was a 3 hour drive one way but it was well worth it!
Earlier this month marked the Six Month Anniversary of our local protests put on by Chippewa Valley Indivisible and Eau Claire County Democratic Party. The theme for this special protest was “Toto, We’re Not in America Anymore”; 329 people lined the streets in downtown Eau Claire with creative costumes, clever signs, and good energy. Let’s keep it going!
I visited the Hmong Mental Health Conference. This visit was important to all the roles I have: counselor, council president, and congressional candidate.
I met with the fine folks in Stevens Point. I attended the Campaign launch for Eric Olson for Portage Co Exec and then headed to the Stevens Point City Council meeting.
A few days later I was back in the area to have a meet and greet in Plover. We had over 70 people show up! Thank you to our Portage County volunteers who helped organize the event. I didn’t know any of these folks before this campaign and I am loving getting to know all of these people!
I joined in the celebrations at the La Crosse Hmong New Year We listened to speeches which emphasized community and unity as well as lifting up the Hmong history and culture.
I’ve also been standing up for my community against Derrick Van Orden’s attacks.
The First Amendment protects the rights of all citizens to express themselves, whether we agree with their words or not. To threaten entire communities with financial harm because of disagreement with speech is unconstitutional, un-American, and unacceptable.
Our schools, our healthcare, our public safety, and our basic services are not bargaining chips. They belong to the people. When a member of Congress threatens to take them away, he is not punishing politicians, he is punishing working families, seniors, and children.
Derrick Van Orden says he is punishing our city over the remarks of two council members because EC voters elected them to council. Behavior like this contributes to the crisis we are in at the national level. Now more than ever it’s essential to elect someone who can hit the ground running and take on this destruction. My 8 years as an elected official has prepared me to do just this.
